Founded in 1787 as a small, private school, the Pittsburgh Academy was located in a log cabin near Pittsburgh’s three rivers. In the more than 220 years since, the University has evolved into an internationally recognized center of learning and research.

Sustainable design and construction are nothing new at the University of Pittsburgh. Pitt installed its first campus-wide energy management system in 1975. Recently constructed Pitt buildings have followed the latest “green” design and construction standards. And the University’s Mascaro Center for Sustainable Innovation focuses on the design of sustainable neighborhoods.
